Sir Thomas Baring (1799-1873) by John Linnell (1792-1882)

Sir Thomas Baring was a partner at Barings from 1828 until his death. In the 1850's and 1860's, he was the undisputed leader of the house. He was also an MP and a close associate of the Prime Minister, Benjamin Disraeli. He was twice offered cabinet posts, but declined on both occasions.
