Dear Sir,

In the course of a conversation yesterday with a Mr Wolverley Attwood and Mr Philip Jewells, on the subject of the "Northfleet Shipbuilding Company", the latter suggested that Mr F Baring, of Sittingbourne would make an excellent Director, and he thought might be disposed to act, if applied to.

You will fairly regard the caution which induces me to trouble you Thomas Baring Esq M.P with the enquiry whether in the event of my obtaining Mr W F Barings cooperation such a result would be agreeable to your firm.

I assure you, I am most unwilling to take any step likely to frustrate my hopes of ultimately obtaining the support of your house and remain,
